Obituary of Michael Gianfrancesco

Passed away peacefully at Freeport Health Centre, with his family at his side, on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at the age of 76.

Beloved husband to Jane. Father to Michael (Jon) Gianfrancesco and Marni (Jay) Flanagan. Papa to Owen and Keira Flanagan. Brother to Felix (Rita) Gianfrancesco and Rose (Doug) Osborne. Uncle to Bianca (Chris) Gianfrancesco, James Gianfrancesco, Cheryl (Brian) Hildebrand, Mark (Ang) Osborne. Step-father to Kate (Jeff) Daley. Fondly remembered by Barb (Eric) Gianfrancesco. Great uncle, cousin, and family member to many more. 

Predeceased by his parents, Pietro and Giovanna (Pignotti) Gianfrancesco, and their siblings. 

Mike loved his life, and felt fortune had been very good to him. He spoke often of his early days in Italy, and his trip to Canada at age 7. He was a great husband, father, and papa, and was good to his friends and colleagues.

Highly regarded in his employment at Region of Waterloo Public Health, as a Public Health Inspector and Manager of Environmental Health.

He was a man of good humour and corny jokes. Creative, inventive, resourceful, and talented, he loved projects and renovations. Always the sportsman, he enjoyed curling bonspiels, and especially golf. He loved building with rocks and stone. He made lasting friendships with all he knew. We are blessed to have had this wonderful man in our lives, and he will be deeply missed.

Deep gratitude to nurses and staff of St. Mary’s Hospital and Grand River Hospital at Freeport, as well as his care team.

Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 from 3:00 – 7:00 pm.  The family requests that all in attendance please wear a personal face covering. Golf/casual attire is welcomed.

Cremation will have taken place.
