Obituary of Redina Caracaz

Rediña Caracaz passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at the age of 87. 

Rediña was born in the Philippines to Alejandro Caracas and Espirita Casis Caracaz on March 27, 1935.  She attended and graduated from the Philippine Women’s University.  Rediña worked under the late Dr. Fe del Mundo at Children’s Medical Centre before immigrating to Canada in 1965.  Settling first in Toronto before making Waterloo her home.  Rediña worked at University of Waterloo as The Secretary to the Dean of Math for more than 25 years until her retirement.  She then became a member of the University of Waterloo Retirees Association.  Rediña was an active member of St. Michael’s Parish and sang in the choir.  Her love for Opera and Classical Music was a fact known to all who knew her.  In addition to her love for music, she enjoyed travelling and has travelled to many countries. 

Rediña is survived by her sister, Wilma Baja of Colma, California, nephew Darwin Caracaz (Jennifer), niece Karla Caracaz (Chris).  Beloved “Lola” to Olivia and Wesley.  She is preceded by her loving younger brother , Diosdado Caracaz. 

Visitation will be held at Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street S., Waterloo on September 20, 2022 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm Funeral Mass will be held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 80 University Avenue West, Waterloo on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at 1:00 pm with Father Jamroz officiating.  Burial will follow at Parkview Cemetery, 355 University Avenue.
