Obituary of Rev. Patrick McKelvie, CR

The Congregation of the Resurrection announces the death of Father Patrick Leonard McKelvie, CR on September 24, 2022 at Grand River Hospital. He was 76 years old, in his 58th year of religious life and 45th year of ordained priesthood.

 

Father McKelvie is predeceased by his parents Harry and Helene (nee Brannif), a brother Douglas and a sister Jinny. He is survived and lovingly remembered by his brother Michael (Mary), nephews John (Tracy) and Patrick (Nicole), niece Kelly, and many other relatives.

 

Father McKelvie professed his religious vows in the Congregation on September 8, 1964 and was ordained to the ministerial priesthood on May 14, 1977.

 

He began his ministry as a deacon at St. Francis Parish for six months and then served as chaplain at St. Jerome’s College and Vocation Co-ordinator for the OK Province. Fr. McKelvie was Associate Pastor at St. Aloysius Parish, Kitchener, and ministered in Bermuda as Rector of St. Theresa’s Cathedral and as Pastor at St. Michael’s Parish. Fr. Pat served as Southdown’s Director for After-care ministry and as a Spiritual Director. In 1988 he undertook graduate studies at Aquinas Institute (St. Louis) for an MA in pastoral studies concentrating on religious formation.

 

Fr. Pat served on several committees within the Congregation and acted as Formation Director and House Superior for Resurrection House of Theology, Toronto. He served on St. Jerome’s College Board and K.W. Catholic Social Services Board.

 

Fr. Pat enjoyed gardening, in particular watching his seedlings grow and sharing the bounty with the other Manor members. He had a deep love for animals, in particular dogs.

Visitation of Father McKelvie will take place at St. Eugene’s Chapel at Resurrection College, 265 Westmount Rd N, Waterloo, ON, on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 from 10:00 A.M. to 10:45 A.M.  The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Eugene’s Chapel, Waterloo, ON at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 Interment will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery, Kitchener.
