Bruce Calder

Obituary of Bruce Dennis Calder

It pains us to inform you that our son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, nephew and cousin, Bruce Calder died on Wednesday, October 12, 2022. Bruce was born on March 12, 1962. He was a down syndrome boy and man who was born at Grand River Hospital and lived with his family in Waterloo. He was schooled at New Dawn, Martin, and Grand River Collegiate. He worked and participated in the recreation programs at KW Habilitation Services, up to a few weeks ago.

Bruce has participated especially in the Special Olympics swimming programs at the provincial and national levels. He had a beautiful front crawl stroke, and had a good skill level in the breaststroke, backstroke, and the butterfly. He had exceptional rhythm and loved to dance. He also delivered a professional bowling ball, and played a lot of time in the arenas, and around the province, following his three brothers.

Bruce had good characteristics – liked fun, had good social skills, understood language and expressed his answer with body language and broken words. He was distinguished by his love for his parents, brothers, co-workers and friends. He will be sorrowfully missed.

There will be a Celebration of Life with a visitation for family and friends at KW Habilitation, 99 Ottawa St. S., Kitchener, on Sunday, October 23, 2022 from 1pm - 4pm, with a dedication to Bruce at 2:15pm.
