Obituary of Shirley McConnell

It is with sadness that the family of Shirley McConnell announce her passing on October 12, 2022, at the age of 97. Predeceased by her brothers Jack, Ken, and Bill she is survived by her brothers Andrew, and Terry (Fitzgerald) and numerous nieces and nephews across North America. Shirley also leaves indelible memories for a multiple generational group of foreign students and their extended families from her decades of renting rooms to foreign students and providing a loving home for them and their friends/families. She also managed to take in the odd cat or dog that adopted her.

Born in Arthur, she moved to Waterloo in 1958 and spent 47 years working at the post office. She also travelled extensively, often with a niece and/or a foreign student or two along.

Thanks to Wendy and friends in Breithaupt House at Columbia Forest Long Term Care for taking such good care of her over the past 4 ½ years.

Respecting her wishes there will be a private burial at Greenfield Cemetery in Arthur. A memorial celebration of her life will be scheduled at a later time.
