Schmidt, Bryan George
September 5, 1952 – November 11, 2022
Loving husband, Father, Opa, Brother and Friend, passed away unexpectedly on Friday November 11, 2022 at the age of 70, with Anne by his side. He did not suffer.
Survived by his loving wife Anne (nee Vanderzand) of 47 years, his daughters Sarah (Jade), Amy (Steve), Meghan (John), his grandchildren Teagan, Norah, Blake, Harper, Emmett, Anneke and Lars.
His siblings, Cindy (Larry), Pam (Dave), in-laws Marleen (Hubert), Harry (Donna), Joe (Carolyn), John, and Mary. He was loved and will be missed by many nieces, nephews, family and friends in Canada, the USA and the Netherlands.
Predeceased by his parents George and Betty Schmidt of Mitchell, and parents in law, John and Joanne Vanderzand.
He has many four legged friends who will miss the treats he carried in his pocket.
Growing up in Stratford, he created many lifelong friendships. He worked his career in Facility Management for the Region of Waterloo, WRDSB and Conestoga College. A carpenter by trade, he and Anne built their first home in Thunder Bay, and their cottage home in Oliphant. Anne always said that she was a better carpenter, than he was a nurse. Bryan was an avid cyclist, and skier. He loved to canoe, fish, and be with family. He loved to tell a good joke and always filled the room with laughter. His favourite job was retirement and was often found working in his woodshop at the cottage.
Special thanks to the first responders at the scene and emergency staff at the Wiarton hospital. Dr. Gregory Knight, Christine Bender RN, from GRRCC, and all those who supported him throughout the years.
Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Tuesday November 15, 2022 from 2 – 4 p.m. and 7 – 9 p.m. The funeral service to celebrate Bryan’s life will be held in the chapel of the funeral home on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at 2 p.m. A private family interment will be held at Parkview Cemetery, Waterloo at a later date.
