Obituary of Roy John Hackbart

Passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Monday, November 14, 2022 in his 101st year.


Roy was predeceased by his wife Dorothy, brother Robert (Mary), sisters Audrey Dietrich (Harold) and Phyllis Mohr (Alf), sisters-in-law Ruby Hackbart, Ivy Smith (Jim) and Lil Quehl (Pat), brother-in-law Charles Powell and sons-in-law Art Martin and Howard Works.


Roy will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his daughters Wendy Martin, Judy Hackbart, and Cathy Dowdall (Gary), grandchildren Connie Cunningham (William), Patrick Dowdall (Amanda), Kelly Dowdall (Matt), Megan Works, Matt Works (Chris), and Taylor Works, great-grandchildren Ashanti (Kevin), Jarule, and Tishana Cunningham, Cooper and Jackson Dowdall, William Fatkin, and Jayden Arsenault, great-great-grandchild Kimara, brother Lorne Hackbart, sister-in-law Evelyn Powell, and many nieces and nephews.


Roy loved horses and attending the Royal Winter Fair and many Fall Fairs. He also enjoyed his bowling league in New Hamburg, and his Men’s Solo Club in Baden. For 40 years, he spent time at the Fenelon Falls Trailer Park. He was a proud worker at Kaufman Footwear. Roy cherished the many vacations he was able to take to Florida, and in his nineties to Jamaica, and most recently to Cuba with his family and friends in 2020.


A Memorial Service will be held at Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S, Waterloo on Sunday, November 20th at 2:00pm in the chapel. A Reception will follow in the Fireside Room, and those who are unable to attend the service are welcome to drop in at the reception between 3pm and 5pm. Condolences and donations to St James Lutheran Church in Baden or the Heart and Stroke Foundation may be arranged at
