Obituary of Christopher Raymond Edward Becker

Christopher Raymond Edward Becker, at the age of just 30 years, was so cruelly taken from us far too early on November 26, 2022.

Sorrowfully grieved and deeply loved by his parents Ray Becker of Wingham and Janice and Ted Arenburg of St. Charles; his sisters Katelynn Becker and her partner Alex Michel of Sudbury and Sharon and Phil Bright of Waterloo; and brother Jim Becker and his partner Stella Poon of Princeton. He will also be greatly missed by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Chris was eternally happy, always finding the good even in a bad situation. He didn’t ask for much, treasuring his independence, but was always there to jump in and help when needed.

He found joy in playing with his electronic gadgets and video games, checking out pickup trucks, watching the Toronto Maple Leafs and participating in sports from soccer and baseball, to hockey, broomball and weightlifting.

After graduating from Central Huron Secondary School, he attended Cambrian College in Sudbury, earning his diploma as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, then tried different occupations, including working at a tannery in his last position.

When Chris was afflicted with the terrible auto-immune disorder MCTD in December of 2020, which robbed him of his mobility, breath, freedom and spirit, he faced it with strength, courage and bravery, proving once again that he had grown into a wonderful young man. He always fought on.

Though he held onto his dreams to travel, go fishing or sit by a campfire, these activities became more challenging and an impossibility as the months passed.

Chris loved being with his family. He was excited to have been able to attend his niece’s and cousin’s receptions this past summer. He also had the chance to sit by a campfire one more time.

He is now free from pain and frustration and has gone on ahead in peace.

His family would like to thank the many specialists who tried in vain to find the solution to Chris’ puzzle and the multitude of nurses and other healthcare workers who cared for him and comforted him through his struggles.

Visitation will be held at Erb & Good Funeral Home, 171 King St. S, Waterloo, on November 28, from 6 to 9 p.m. and November 29, from 12 to 12:45 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m.
