Obituary of Barbara Buchanan

Barbara Buchanan, age 91 years, passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at Hospice Wellington in Guelph, Ontario.

She was the daughter of the late Gertrude and Victor Buchanan; sister to Ross and Phyllis (both deceased). She is survived by her nieces and nephews Martha Orr, Christine Buchanan, John Buchanan, Michael Buchanan, and Nancy Buchanan.

Barbara was born and raised in Kitchener, attended Ovenden School in Barrie, and subsequently Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto. After moving to Hamilton, Barbara worked in the Blood Donor Clinic and Canadian Red Cross.

Barbara made many friendships in Hamilton, which lasted over the years when she returned to live in Kitchener. She loved to have fun and enjoyed sports, especially watching her favourite football team, the Hamilton Tiger Cats.  Also, she joined a British Sports Car Club, taking part in rallies and events, driving her little white TR car. Barbara was a member of the Westmount Golf and Country Club for 82 years, where she golfed, curled and enjoyed socializing with members and friends. Barbara loved all animals, but especially her beloved dogs, large and small. Her humour, intelligence and care will be sorely missed by all her dear friends, home care workers, and helpers along the way.  Everyone loved her and she will be missed.

A Celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street S, Waterloo, on Monday, December 12th from 11:00am – 2:00pm. Interment of the urn at Mount Hope Cemetery to follow.
