Obituary of Josefa "Sophie" Piller

Josefa “Sophie” Piller, of Waterloo, Ontario passed away peacefully with her family at her side in her 90^th year, December 20, 2022, after a brief struggle with cancer.

Beloved wife and cherished best friend of Joe Piller, with whom she celebrated their 70^th wedding anniversary in July 2022. Dear Mom to Gloria Piller of Waterloo and Glen Piller (Marie) of Oakville. Loving and proud Omi to her two lovely granddaughters Beth and Megan (Greg). Sophie will be remembered by her sisters Stefani Krohn and Lois Tessner, other relatives, as well as a large circle of friends.

Sophie was predeceased by her parents Franz and Rosalia Gregoritsch, her brother Felix Gregor, and her sisters Maria Forthuber and Rosi Zach.

Sophie was born in 1932 in Kletsch, Gottschee, Slovenia (former Yugoslavia). In 1945, she and her birth family moved to Austria and later, in 1948, immigrated to Waterloo, Canada, where she met her husband and married in 1952. Sophie was a long-time member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church German Congregation Ladies’ Auxiliary, and as of late, a member of St. Louis R.C. Church in Waterloo. She was also a long-standing member of the Alpine Club ladies group, Edelweiss. Sophie was a meticulous homemaker who dedicated her life to her husband and family. She and her husband enjoyed many winters in Florida and were avid deck shuffleboard players and card players.

Friends and relatives are invited to share their memories of Sophie during Visitation at Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street S, Waterloo on Wednesday, December 28^th from 10:00am – 10:50am. The Funeral Service will be held in the Funeral Home’s Chapel at 11:00am, and a Reception will follow in the Fireside Room. Interment at Parkview Cemetery.
