SCHMID, Rosina “Rose”
Rosina “Rose” Schmid of Kitchener died peacefully amongst family in her 95th year. Rose was born June 21, 1928 in Oberneudorf, Transylvania, Romania. The beloved daughter of the late Rosina (nee Nikolaus) & Johann Hesch.
Rose was a faithful member of the Pilgrim Lutheran Church and Transylvania Saxon Club in Kitchener where many cultural activities were embraced through family and friends. Christmas, Easter & Oktoberfest were especially fond times for Rose. Cooking old world meals to baking her fabulous pastries, always made anyone feel welcome and at home.
A young Rose and family left Transylvania during WWII for Austria where they settled near Salzburg. It was here Rose met her husband, Engelbert and they married Christmas eve 1955 They were married for 39 years until Engelbert’s death in 1994. Emigrating to Canada in 1956 and settling near Aylmer ON they worked happily as share growers on a tobacco farm until moving to Kitchener in 1965 where Rose lived for the remainder of her life.
Rose is survived by her two sons Gerhard (Katie) and Rick (Jacqueline) Schmid. Loving Oma to Heidi (Mike), Robert (Edda), James (Ashley), Maximillian & Sabrina, and UrOma to seven. Rose is also survived by her little sister Maria Eichberger (nee Hesch) and predeceased by her brothers Johann (1943) and Michael (2009) Hesch.
Rose’s family will receive relatives & friends from 6-8pm on Thursday December 29th at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St, South, Waterloo. The funeral service will be held at 12 noon in the chapel of the funeral home on Friday, December 30th with a livestream of the service available at www.erbgood.com A reception will follow the service, interment at Woodland cemetery thereafter.
