Obituary of Margaret Cridge Carlisle
Mom left this world peacefully after a brief illness on a bright, sunny morning at Freeport Hospital, Kitchener on Wednesday December 21, 2022, at the age of 94.
She leaves behind her legacy - her children Susan (Brad), Drew (Shelly) and Chris (Jacquie) as well as her grand-children Leah (Jordan) and Alison; Ian; Courtney (Gary) and Lucas (Julianna) and great-grand-children Kiley & Brody and 1 more on the way.
Mom was born on Jan. 24, 1928, in Kapuskasing, Ontario. She trained as a nurse at Toronto Western Hospital. After graduating in 1950, she spent time working at a small hospital in Terrace Bay, Ontario, before travelling to England with a group of friends where she stayed for 14 months, working in a London hospital and spending time hitchhiking around Europe. The highlight of this adventure was seeing the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, who she greatly admired and often talked about. After returning to Canada, she continued her career working at Toronto Western Hospital & later at Freeport Hospital.
In the past, Mom enjoyed volunteering, travelling, and playing bridge in two clubs with ladies that became lifelong friends. She especially loved spending time with her family and friends.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank each of the many staff on the 5th floor at St Mary's Hospital, Kitchener who took care of Mom during the last few weeks. And a special thanks to the phenomenal palliative care nurses and doctors at Freeport Hospital, Kitchener, who all treated Mom with care, dignity, and respect through the last days of her life. You truly are special people.
Cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held at a later date.
Mom was always very generous in her support of various charities and so, if you wish to honour her memory, please consider a donation to one of these favourites of hers - Doctors without Borders, the Red Cross or Grand River Hospital Foundation - Grand River Hospital - Freeport Campus Palliative Care (https://grhf.ca/products/donate-to-complex-continuing-care) Condolences for the family and donations may be arranged at www.erbgood.com
