This is coming late but wanted to reach out and offer condolences to both of you, Joan and Barb, and your families. Our family have so many great memories with Dick and Shirley. It started back in 1989 when I worked at Shirlite. From there, getting together for visits, once to the cottage and through the years at each others home. My daughters, when little loved coming to the office especially in the summertime, Dick would treat them to popsicles. I had a wonderful conversation with Dick just before Christmas. I will miss our phone chats.

This is late, but nevertheless I had to share my memory. The quintessential father of the neighborhood I grew up in on Lakeside Drive. He exuded warmth and kindness. I likened him to Fred MacMurray of My Three Sons. I can still picture him on the piano with his pipe. One of the finest. The Great Beyond is richer now.

Thinking of the Bryden family today. Your Dad was always a warm and welcoming presence in your home! He surely did live a long and fully engaged life and touched so many other lives along his journey. Remembering many happy times spent with you, Joan and sending condolences.

The Bryden family was a large presence in the Ratz family. The cottage in Honey Harbour was a familiar and regular part of our summers. All three girls had been a valued confidante at different times in my life. I know how close you were to your parents and my thoughts are with you both. I think of Lisa often, especially now. As with Lisa, I will be giving a donation to an animal welfare group in Peterborough, The Turtle Conservancy.
All my best,
Barbara

My condolences, Joan, for the loss of your father. I remember you speaking about him often, especially the happy times at Honey Harbour and his remarkable independence at his home. I'm sorry his death came at an especially hard time of year. My thoughts are with you.

Our indoor and outdoor dinner tables shared both exotic and traditional fares with Dick and his faithful pooch, Sally. We will miss our summertime Wendy's Frosty treats on the front porch. Sally deserved her own personal Frosty.
Dick displayed his intimate knowledge of Ontario's roads, foregoing in-car GPS instruction, even into his 100th year. His knowledge provided many followers or passengers the welcome surprise of roadside discoveries rarely seen by GPS-dependent drivers.
Dick's smile truly lit up with the joy of piloting their boat to and from the family's Honey Harbour cottage. We will forever remember the rustic, yet elaborate, ceremony of the 4:00pm Palisades Bay "Hoosfer".
The week before this Christmas, we had the pleasure of his company for a World Cup match & dinner. Dick's musical experience emerged, engaging Sharon, Tim, and me in numerous renditions of Christmas carols with his orchestral voice and direction. Sally snoozed at Dick’s feet - she very much enjoyed the dinners.
Dick is deeply loved by us. We will miss his friendship and sage advice.
