Barb, Stephanie, Rob and St George's thank you for welcoming us into Gary's celebration of life. With Gord's mobility issues we were able to attend the service. Stephanie and Rob you shared a beautiful tribute to Gary in your eulogy. That is the Gary that we remember. Thanks also to the others that shared readings. I was also very impressed the way Fr Stephen personally spoke to Nora that was special. Prayers, peace, love and hugs

To Barb and Family,
Andy and I are very sorry to hear of the passing of Gary. He was truly a great person. Andy will never forget the great adventure of sailing the ocean with Gary and Tom. Gary was so accommodating in traveling to the North Channel with Andy on a one way ticket and putting up with ‘one kayak?’.
I pray God will give you strength during this very difficult time.

Barbara, Stephanie, Rob and families we are so sorry to hear of Gary’s passing. He was a kind, caring gentle man who always had a smile on his face. He was always there to lend a helping hand. I remember seeing Gary and Barb at the hospital when I had visited Gord. We stopped to chat and shared what had been going on in our lives since we last spoke. Gary lived life to the fullest and didn’t let the things that life through at him stop him from being the man God created him to be. Prayers, peace love and hugs.

Mr Ayre was my 9 or 10 teacher at Grand River Collegiate. I believe that was near beginning of his teaching career. He was a gentle and kind teacher. I got the “Most improved” award which I will never forget. He saw potential in me. I have thought of him several times over the years, and I saw him a number of years back at the hospital. I pray he did not suffer in physical pain. Thinks of his family as you both grieve and celebrate his life.
You Done Good Mr Ayre! Until we meet again

As a strong, compassionate, encouraging leader and principal at SJAM (now LHSS), Gary demonstrated his commitment to students and staff well-being. He would often be in the halls, greeting everyone, and popped into classrooms to keep touch with what was going on in the school. His sense of humour and organized agendas were welcome. We were hard-pressed to hear any negative comments from him and his positive attitude was contagious. He did bend a few of the rules when they needed to be bent. He and Barb joined the SJAM Retirees for luncheons, and we sure enjoyed their companionship.
Leadership, kindness, friendship, good memories and life balance - quite the legacy.
Sincere condolences to Barb and family.

Gary was a kind, generous and affable brother in law and uncle who will be sadly missed. We will always treasure our time together at family Christmases and cottage visits. A truly decent man in every sense of the word, his dry humour and easy laugh were infectious. There always seemed a project or renovation on the go that he and Barb tackled skillfully and, it seemed, effortlessly. Most of all, Gary treated everyone with dignity and respect. His was truly a life well lived and the world has lost a beautiful soul.

I am so very sorry to hear this news. I worked with Gary for many years and found him to be just as described - positive, kind, ready to take on a challenge. I will always remember his willingness to help as I transitioned into Laurel Heights when he retired. I also remember well the positive comments of staff and students and how well loved he was by that community. Sending my sincere condolences to Barb and the rest of Gary's family.

A devastating loss for family, friends, educators, fellow sailors, golfers and Leafs enthusiasts. For those of us who had the privilege of knowing Gary, know exactly that - it was a privilege. Gary touched my life in a unique role, but his family-first attitude that has been shared with his children, is something I am extremely grateful for. I know his stories will be shared for years to come and his grandchildren will grow to know how truly special their Boppa was. He was an incredible man and my heart aches for his beautiful family.
With the most sincere condolences,
Katie Jervis
