Obituary of Helga Dunn
On January 14th Helga Dunn passed away peacefully at Village of Winston Park in Kitchener, Ontario, her home for the past seven years.
She was wife to the late Murray Dunn, mother to Sylvia (Richard Lyons), Sandra and Andrew Dunn and grandmother to Miles and Rowan Lanigan and Liam Dunn Kelly.
Born in Bremen, Germany on July 18,1937, to Heinrich and Hanni Blome, she developed a strong passion for art, music, literature and travel. As a young adult she worked in London, Geneva and Brussels and made long lasting friendships through these ventures.
While hitchhiking to Amsterdam for Easter weekend with a friend she met Murray Dunn, a Canadian pilot stationed in Germany. They married in Bremen in 1963. Their first daughter, Sylvia was born in France. They moved to Calgary, Alberta in 1966 where both Sandra and Andrew were born.
Helga finished her high school education in Canada and went on to obtain a BA through correspondence courses and eventually a Masters in German Literature at Queens University in Kingston. She and Murray moved to Kingston in 1986 where Helga taught in the German Department at Queen’s for over a decade.
Helga also loved to garden. She transformed the properties of every home she lived in designing, digging, planting and maintaining beautiful flower beds and spaces for eating and reading outside.
Special thanks to the staff at Winston Park for caring so lovingly for Helga.
Internment and a Celebration of Life will take place in the spring in Huntsville. ON.
