It is with very deep sadness that we announce the passing of Glenn McLelland on February 21, 2023 at the age of 60 due to Cardiac Arrest.
Glenn is predeceased by his mother, Mary Ruth McLelland nee Radcliffe (2015). He is survived by his father, David McLelland and his sisters Heather MacDonald (Walter) and Lynn. Also, nephew Robert MacDonald (Laura, and their pet Alfie), and niece Karen MacDonald.
Glenn was a very quiet, friendly, reliable and always available person. Like his mother, when he made friends, they were for a lifetime. In his quiet manner, when new neighbours arrived, he was one of the first to welcome them and introduce himself. On one occasion, when a relatively new neighbour had a baby, he quietly purchased a number of baby items and dropped them off at the neighbour’s house.
After successfully completing his Grade 13 at FHCI, he obtained a position with the then, Waterloo County Board of Education. He worked in the Finance Department, with particular involvement in Budget Control. Having been employed at the Board for nearly 38 years, he retired from the Waterloo Region District School Board on August 31, 2019.
Glenn’s main involvement was the game of golf. As an 11-year-old, and with 3 friends, he started golfing at Merry-Hill Golf Club. He then spent a couple of years at Doon Golf Club before joining Dundee Golf and Country Club where he was Club Champion in 1992. For many years he has been a member of Golf North with Grey Silo as his home course. Golf enabled Glenn to enjoy the outdoors and make many friends.
For many years, with a group of buddies, he enjoyed going on golf trips to other countries such as Cuba, Mexico, Panama City and the Dominican Republic to name a few. While golf was the focus of these trips, he made many lifelong friends and enjoyed exploring and photographing the various places.
Visitation will take place at Erb and Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street S., Waterloo on Monday, Feb. 27, 2023 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm.
