Obituary of Patrick Joseph Sharkey

Patrick Joseph Sharkey passed away on Sunday March 12, 2023, after a lifelong battle with congenital heart disease. Patrick leaves behind his wife Rita of 31 years and his son Alexander, his siblings Paul (Gale), Michael (Karen), Anne Marie, Shelia (Ferdinand), John (Jen) and Sarah (pre-deceased) (Tim). Also his in-laws Hermann and Marta Lehmann, sister-in-law Karin Macleod (Duane) and his brother-in-law Martin (Cindy), as well as many nieces and nephews. Patrick was pre-deceased by his parents, Mrs. Anne Sharkey (nee Gelineau) and Dr. Patrick J. Sharkey (Dianne).

A special note of appreciation goes out to the Calhoun family for always being there and to countless other supportive friends. Thanks also to the staff at UHN Congenital Clinic and Heart Function Clinic at St. Mary’s General Hospital and to Dr. Usha Manian and Dr. Lucy Roche for all of their help over the years.

Patrick had a deep desire to help people whether it was through his work or personal life. He volunteered with Junior Achievement of Waterloo Region, The Beat Retreat and at various schools that his son attended. He will always be remembered for his kindness, the smile on his face and his encyclopedic knowledge and love of music.

Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Friday March 17, 2023 from 12:30-1:00 p.m. with a Memorial Service to follow in the chapel of the funeral home. A private family interment will take place in the spring.
