Arthur “Sam” Smyth, of Waterloo, died peacefully at 92.

Sam is survived by Mary Anne, his wife and best friend of 65 years, children Stan (Alison), Laura (Howard), Nancy (Lex) and Julie and grandchildren Stuart, Graeme, Adrian, Julian, Sophie-Anne, James and Fiona.

Born in Buffalo, New York, Sam grew up in Fort Erie and served in the U.S. Army before graduating from McMaster University. He spent decades working at Royal Trust in Toronto, Kitchener, Montreal and Vancouver.

Remembered by many close friends in Kitchener-Waterloo, he was liked by all and was truly a kind and generous man. He was a member of the Probus Club and ROMEOs and loved time with friends and family. Sam spent summers at Red Bay on the Bruce Peninsula and winters in Siesta Key, Florida.
