Obituary of Denis Major Kuhl
Denis Major Kuhl, aged 88, of Kitchener, ON, passed away on March 12, 2023, at Trinity Village Care Centre. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Carmel New Church, 40 Chapel Hill Dr Kitchener, ON, on Saturday May 27, 2023, at 3:00 pm.
Denis was born in Kitchener to John E. Kuhl and Winnifred “Wyn” M. Kuhl on September 18, 1934. He attended the Carmel Church School in Kitchener, the Kitchener Collegiate Institute, and the Academy of the New Church. He graduated from ANC College with a BSc. Education, and from Temple University, Philadelphia, PA, with a MSc. Education.
Highlights of his employment include Teacher/Coordinator of the Recreation Leadership Program at Conestoga College from 1970-1998. He also worked as Camp Ranger at Everton Scout Camp, Rockwood ON; taught at the Carmel New Church School, Kitchener, ON; and managed Kiwanis Park, Waterloo, ON.
Denis was a lifelong member of the Carmel New Church, a member of the 11th Kitchener Boy Scout Troop, Camp Director for 22 years at Maple Leaf Academy Youth Camp, a member of the Singing City Choir in Philadelphia, and a 25-year member of the K-W Philharmonic Choir. He loved everything outdoors: camping, hiking, canoeing, birdwatching, and gardening.
Denis is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sandy (nee Cooper) Kuhl; his children Lauren, Kathlyn, Jacquie, Steph and Jen; daughter-in-law Rinnie; sons-in-law Gordon and Armando; and his sister Carolyn Bellinger. He is also survived by twenty grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He is predeceased in death by his first wife, Rhona (nee Synnestvedt) Kuhl, his son Matthew D. Kuhl and his son-in-law Tim Rose.
