Obituary of Mila Smilek
SMILEK, Bohumila (Mila) (Nee Prochaskova)
August 25, 1946 – March 22, 2023
With confidence in the resurrection of all those who die in the Lord, the family of Mila Smilek announces her call to rest in Jesus’ everlasting arms, at the age of 76. She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Kristoslav (Kris) Smilek, her children David Smilek (Lisa) and Daniel Smilek (Shelley), and her grandchildren Anna, Joshua, Chloe, Eva, Caleb, Noah, Luke, Lydia, and Grace Smilek. She is also remembered by her half-sister Marie Bohackova, sister-in-law, Libuse Prochaskova, nephew Radek and nieces Martina and Eva in Czech Republic. Mila was predeceased by her parents Antonin Prochaska and Halina Prochaskova and her brother Bohuslav Prochaska.
Mila was born in Prague, Czech Republic on August 25, 1946. She was married to Kris Smilek on July 17, 1970, in Prague, after which they moved to Brno, where their sons were born. In 1980, they left their home to escape communism, spending one year in Austria before settling in Mississauga, Ontario. Mila started her career in Czech Republic as a music teacher of classical guitar and ended her career as head of quality control for Chubb Fire and Safety. In later years, Kris and Mila made their home in Amaranth Township where they kept a property and took up beekeeping following her retirement.
We have been blessed tremendously by her many acts of service and her energetic and caring demeanour. She passed peacefully and we are grateful the family was able to gather around her, reading scripture and singing hymns during her last moments.
The funeral service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, 136 Margaret Avenue Kitchener, Ontario on Thursday, March 30, 2023, at 11:30 a.m., with luncheon to follow. A private family interment will be held in Hawkesville Cemetery.
