I hold so many special memories of you and John. The car trips to the decathlon games, our sailing adventure, the birth of JM and SP and every time I see an Irish Setter I think of Penny and the roast. We lost touch when you moved west. I’m sad to know that John has passed, perhaps he and Scott have connected again on the fields in heaven still working on their pole vault and high jump! Sending condolences and love to you and your family. Pat

Yolanda and family,
Please accept my condolences! Memories of you and John @NCYC are fond ones! Dad (Eino) , John and I once raced. He was a competitive coach! He may not have experienced our style of racing which started with me handing out a snack before the start line! He taugh me how to “tip toe” across the boat to reduce drag! Still brings a smile to my face that he though I could tip toe! I hope many fond memories are shared during your time of grief. Sincerely, Karen Halinen

I liked and admired John. He was a man of parts but I remember him best for his cheerful good humour and ready wit with which he enlivened the BPDS staffroom making our time of work and relaxation there more enjoyable. Knowledgeable, friendly and able, may he remain seaworthy on the way.
My condolences to Yolanda, J.M. and the family.

Saddened to hear of John's passing. John was an incredible leader and coach. I consider myself fortunate to have had John support myself....and my fellow Georgian Bay Nordic team members...in high school. Great memories of ski races and many training camps...including fall training in Lions Head. My condolences to Yolanda, JM, Emily and the Gamble family.

There are many memories that I have of John Gamble during his time as a coach with Laurel Creek TFC. Some of these include the numerous daily walks he and I completed during Covid; travelling together to and from competitions; roommates at overnight competitions; countless hours on patios enjoying a cold one with tasty wings. One vivid memory is that we both caught Covid while traveling together for CWOSSA Track & Field, 2022. Two days after the meet, we both tested positive! For months after, he and I continued to blame the other which was all in good fun! Two of John's favourite phrases heard at the track were "Run Faster" and "Stack The Hurdles." John coached/influenced a plethora of athletes in the track community and the Nordic ski community. He will be greatly missed. RIP, John.

John was an incredible role model for a High School student from a competing school. My mind is full of wonderful memories of interacting with him at meets through the 1990's and again as a Coach over the past several years. I'm sure we will all feel his amazing energy and share many happy stories this outdoor season. RIP Legend!

JM & family - so sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. JM when you joined us here at MUN Medicine we did not realize it was not only you but your Dad who would make a lasting impression on the people he met. Your Dad soon got involved with the local track & field community and was instrumental in preparing our fledgling multi-sport track & field athletes for the 2017 Summer Games in Winnipeg. Our daughter Emily was one of those lucky athletes under your Dad's tutelage and his passion to nurture in her the skills, confidence and pride to compete has her continuing in the sport up to today. He was truly missed when you all relocated back to Ontario but stayed in touch with his athletes here and when they competed on the mainland. No doubt to be fondly remembered by the countless athletes he coached as they continue sport throughout their lives is a wonderful legacy. Condolences to all.

Coach, mentor, friend.
Long before needing to find the words for this post, we talked of John Gamble being both kind and genuine. His energy never wavered, his positive approach to life was constant and he saw future Olympians in all of us.
He was invaluable to our daughter through Laurel Creek as her coach and the introduction to Saugeen Track & Field. It went beyond the technical aspects of the evolving list of events. He found a way to connect with her and stay connected through formative years because he consistently cared. He lifted weights with her in our basement, went over hurdles in Kincardine and gave us a good laugh as they trained in the hail. The only coach and athlete who assumed the outdoor practice was still on that night. We don’t recall John ever finding a good reason to cancel a practice.
We are grateful for the friendship we had with John. And we’ll miss it. We’re fighting sadness while trying to focus on the fortunate bounce that brought John to our family. His energy. His smile at the front door as Milo ran to greet him. Leaning up against the fence together at Jacob Hespeler to watch some hurdles. None of this is forever, so we’ll cherish the memories he created and some that we shared together while our lives intersected.
Rest peacefully. Rest knowing you were kind and genuine.
Sisu our dear friend.

My deepest condolences to John's family,
I knew John through Laurel Creek Track Club: among other things, I helped coach his group during the summer of 2021 (I'm an alumni and coach with the University of Waterloo).
I really appreciated John's approach to coaching: he wanted to help young people develop into the best athletes they could be, but made sure everyone was having fun along the way. He strongly advocated for physical literacy: being active and moving well for life. He lived by example, and I was always impressed by his commitment to his own exercise (lifting weights, golfing, throwing discus and javelin, etc.). He loved track and field, competition, and sports in general. You could tell how passionate he was about it very quickly in a conversation.
As an athlete myself nearing the end of my competitive career, John inspired me to make the most of the time I have left competing at this level. He encouraged me to work hard and do my best, but also to enjoy the journey.
John was a lot of fun, and I really enjoyed hearing his stories. He was a pleasure to be around, I will certainly miss spending time with him and joking around at the track.

Mr. Gamble was a kind, generous and enthusiastic coach and teacher. As coach of the Nordic ski team at BPDS he instilled a lifelong passion for Nordic skiing in myself that I am fortunate to be able to pass on to younger skiers and my children. He had a talent for bringing out the best in beginners, fostering their talents and creating competitive athletes.
His dedication was incredible. I'll never forget the 5:00 am car rides in the dark of winter to ski races at Duntroon, Orangeville and Hardwood Hills. As well John and Yolanda were great coaches and team leaders at Georgian Bay Nordic and an important part of the legacy of that ski club.
Our paths also crossed in the summers when he would sail his boat into Tobermory harbour where I worked. Once arriving under sail into a busy harbour with the prop shaft clamped in place with a pair of vice grips. Unfazed by the near disaster, as the boat could have sunk had the shaft slipped free, he fixed the problem and carried on a few days later.
I am saddened to hear of his passing and wish to extend my condolences to his family. I think of John often when skiing and coaching. He will be greatly missed.

I met John when he, Yolanda, and JM were getting seriously into cross-country skiing, and we bonded over our passion for hitting the trails. The family's commitment to sport was incredible, and John and Yolanda's dedication to supporting young athletes was exemplary. I also just loved spending time with them. When I saw John at a track meet this year, he had the same energy, enthusiasm, and geniality that I'd always admired, not to mention the same commitment to coaching. He's a model for me in terms of what it means to be a good person in the world.

Sincerest and deepest condolences to you, Mrs. Gamble and JM & family! Very fond memories of Mr. Gamble as a teacher, coach, Outers Guide, and mentor during my years at BPDS!! He had faith in me that I did not have in myself when it came to coaching me in sports, which truly helped me be a competitive athlete at the time. So many wonderful memories, but one of the most memorable moments was our Outers Sailing Trip across Georgian Bay!
Thank you, Mr. Gamble, for all of your wonderful guidance and wonderful memories of you during my BPDS schooling! I will be forever grateful! May you rest in sweet peace.

Just wanted to say John will be sorely missed. I couldn't have asked for a better Physical Education teacher. I absolutely loved how competitive of a teacher and coach he was. It didn't matter if I was in grade 5 or 12. I knew Mr.Gamble was going to come at me with 100% of his effort. To date one of my greatest accomplishments is being the first grade 9 student to score a single point on him in badminton. Ya I lost 15-1 but I earned that point as we all know nothing was given to you playing Mr. Gamble. I currently spend countless hours coaching sports at high school and in the community. One of the reasons I do this is to give back to the coaches who spent so much time coaching me. John coached every year from September to June at BPDS and was instrumental in our sports. I can’t thank him enough for taking the time to coach me.
Rest in Peace John

John was the quintessential coach and could have coached any sport at a very high level. He had an incredible mind for analyzing athletic endeavour and absolutely loved passing that information to his students. He was in his happy place assisting his athletes in any event and was always encouraging regardless of outcomes. I am forever grateful for the time he spent with my daughter and son in their high school years with Georgian Bay Nordic. He could probably still cite their split times from a 10 k race. He was a remarkable man who has left his beloved family far too soon. He will be sorely missed.

We feel lucky to have known John as a teacher, a friend and a coach. His mind for sport was amazing and his capacity to engage and inspire young athletes was outstanding. While he could likely coach any sport, we knew him as a Nordic Ski coach. His advice to me as a parent of of young athlete was "just get out your cheque book it will be worth every penny" It was worth every penny and then some. Thank you John for you dedication as a teacher and coach to our son and as a mentor to me as a newbie coach. You will be missed.
