Obituary of Doreen Elizabeth Marie Houston
Doreen Houston (née Morgenroth) passed away suddenly in her home on Friday, April 28th, 2023 at the age of 97.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband Jack Houston, son Dan Houston, son-in-law Malcolm Wile, her sister Joyce Hart (Bob), and her brother Frederick Morgenroth (Evelyn). She is survived by her daughter Donna Wile, son David Houston (Karin), grandchildren Christina Kemp, Danielle Cudney, Michael Houston (Gina), Jessie Percival (Chris), Wesley Houston (Tracy), and her great grandchildren Damien and Kayden Cudney, and Victoria and Felix Percival. Loving aunt to Cathy McConnell, and many other nieces and nephews.
Doreen was born in Zealandia, Saskatchewan and moved to Ontario as a teenager. She became a Cub leader where she met Jack, who was a Scout leader, and their everlasting romance continued for 67 wonderful years. Doreen loved playing Scrabble, Bridge, and would do her daily crosswords in the KW Record. She never missed the curling tournaments on TV and always cheered for the Toronto Blue Jays. She often spoke of her beloved friends, the Acorns, was a loyal supporter of the church and the church choir, and enjoyed travelling with her family and with the Probus group. Her beautifully handwritten letters will be remembered by many.
Doreen will be missed dearly by her family, but will be at peace resting with her beloved husband.
Doreen’s family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, May 2 from 10:00 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. at the Erb & Good Funeral Home, 171 King St W, Waterloo. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. followed by a light lunch and then the interment at Memory Gardens in Breslau. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Kitchener through www.erbgood.com.
