Obituary of John Hsi-Chang Wang
We are saddened to announce the peaceful passing of John Hsi-Chang Wang in hospital on May 1, 2023 at the age of 92. He was the beloved husband of the late May Tao-Mei Wang (2011) for 53 years. John will be deeply missed by his children, eldest son David and his wife April and second son Michael and his wife Barbara as well as 12 grandchildren, Joseph (Yo), Mary (Yi), Margaret, Madeleine, Michelle, John, James, Monica, Jordan, Matthew, Peter and Sophie and 4 great-grandchildren, Ella, Gemma, Dominic and Peter. He will be fondly remembered by many friends, and extended family.
John was born and raised in Tianjin China. At age 20, he moved to Taiwan where he met the love of his life, May, whom he later married. After moving to Canada in 1958, John received his Masters degree from University of Manitoba followed by his PhD from the University of Saskatchewan. John and May remained in Saskatoon where John worked as a Professor of anatomy at the University of Saskatchewan and pioneered new research in genetics and chromosome banding. After the birth of their first grandchildren, he and his wife moved to Kitchener-Waterloo to be closer to the family. John became an active member of his church community at the Kitchener Waterloo Chinese Alliance Church where he maintained many close relationships up to his final day.
Those who knew John will always remember his kind and gentle disposition together with his wonderful sense of humour. He was easy-going and always looked for the best in others. He will be missed and fondly remembered by all his friends and family.
Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Thursday May 4, 2023, from 4-8 p.m. A Funeral Service will take place in the funeral home chapel on Friday May 5, 2023, beginning at 11 a.m. with an hour of visiting prior.
