It is with generously thankful and saddened hearts that the family announce the passing of Viola May Pierce, (formerly Currie), née Blackshaw at the age of 95 years, on May 4, 2023.
Viola was born on the family farm on Lindenwood Road, in the now Township of Georgian Bluffs, on the Niagara Escarpment, outside of Owen Sound, Ontario, on January 4, 1928, to parents Joseph Edgar Blackshaw and Sarah Jane Burt.
Viola worked at Conestoga College for 20 years before retiring to her birth area to live on the gorgeous shores of Presqu'ile on Georgian Bay, just outside of Owen Sound.
Viola is predeceased by her husband Raymond Basil Pierce (2014), her daughters Sharon (1959) and Frances (2018), her siblings James (Bernice), Wilfred (Vera) and Margaret Schlorff (Clarence). She is survived by her children Brenda Currie (Tom Reinhart), Donna Huber, James Currie, and Janet Schafer. Fondly remembered by her eleven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and their spouses, and two great-great-grandchildren. She will be missed by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Our heartfelt grace is offered to the nurses, PSW's and staff at Trinity Village Care Center.
A funeral service will be held at Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo, on Sunday, May 28, 2023 at 11am, with visitation one hour prior. A luncheon will commence after the service. Interment to follow at Woodland Cemetery in Kitchener.
