Obituary of Joseph Sarkadi

Sarkadi, Joseph Géza

March 30,1935 – May 19, 2023

 

Joseph, beloved husband of Dianne (neé Balheim) for more than 45 years, passed away peacefully in Waterloo, Ontario, on May 19, 2023. He was 88.

 

The second of three children to the late Sigmond and Vilma Sarkadi, Joe was predeceased by his brothers Tibor (Margaret) Sarkadi, and William “Bill” Sarkadi.

 

He was father to Laurie (Francois Rossouw) Sarkadi, Brian (Pamela Gillett) Sarkadi; grandfather to Max, Calvin, Levi, Jacob, Eve; and great grandfather to Giorgia, Hendrik, Jack, Kaia and Leon.

 

After becoming a journeyman tool and die maker, Joe went to the University of Guelph to earn his Bachelor of Arts and a teaching diploma. He taught high school in Guelph until retirement, which allowed him to pursue his true passion: golf. Athletic, curious and creative, Joe loved playing country music on his guitar and had an eclectic array of hobbies – yodeling, sculpting, watercolour, competitive roller dance; he even began Waterloo’s first ukulele club at age 80.

 

As his eyesight began to fail him, Joe continued to find innovative ways to curl and golf and he and Dianne enjoyed much travel together.

Cremation has taken place and a private celebration of life will be held.
