Obituary of Elizabeth Marika Wakem

It is with great love and sadness that we, as a family, announce the peaceful passing of Liz (Nagy) Wakem. Liz passed away on the evening of May 22, 2023, at Grand River Hospital Freeport Campus, Kitchener. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister in-law, aunt and friend. Liz passed away surrounded by her immediate family whom she loved deeply at the age of 73 years old.

Liz will be dearly missed by her beloved husband Jim Wakem, celebrating 55 years of marriage. Her Children, Kathy Finney (Ron Finney) of Wellesley, and Kevin Wakem (Diane Wakem) of Wellesley. Grandchildren, Justin, (Rachel), Dylan, Cara and Ashley. She will be lovingly remembered by her in-laws Paul Wakem (Richard), Judy Wakem (Dave), Steve Wakem (Dale), Howard Wakem (Theresa). Also, her many nieces and nephews. Survived by her mother Elisabeth Nagy and mother in-law Audrey (Wakem) Beadle. She is predeceased by her father, Frank Nagy and father in-law Leonard Wakem.

Liz immigrated to Canada from Germany as a young child. She spent much of her youth in London, Ontario where she met Jim, the love of her life, at a roller-skating arena. Liz loved her family and enjoyed celebrating special occasions together. Always looking her best with painted nails, jewelry and clothes she loved. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church where she cheerfully served in many areas including youth leader. Liz loved singing and celebrating her Saviour Jesus Christ. Liz worked in secretarial roles for both Fielding Financial and Equitable Life. Liz battled through various health complications over the years but never questioned God as to why she suffered so much and didn't complain about her conditions. Instead, she continued to smile, praise God and love her family unconditionally.

A special thank you to the caring staff at Chartwell, Terrace on the Square Retirement Home and Grand River Hospital including the Freeport Campus.

Liz's family will receive relatives and friends at First Baptist Church, 306 Erb St. W.
