Obituary of Elly Lydia Ahrens

Passed away peacefully on Friday, June 16, 2023 at the age of 86.

Elly is survived by her sons Garry Schmitthauser, Richard Schmitthauser, David Schmitthauser, and Robert Schmitthauser, grandson Ryan Schmitthauser, sister Ilona Osbelt (Richard), brother-in-law Robert Schulte, and many more extended family members and friends.

Predeceased by her parents Marie and John Gruning, brother Harry Gruning, and sister Ursula Schulte.

Elly loved cats, enjoyed gardening and going for walks, and cherished the road trips and bus tours she took with her sisters. She was also a dedicated volunteer at the KW Hospital for many years. Elly will be deeply missed.

Special thanks to the staff at Columbia Forest LTC and the Highland Place Retirement Home for all the care and compassionate support they gave to Elly.

Friends and relatives are invited to a Visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Monday, June 19^th from 7pm – 9pm. The Funeral Service will take place in the funeral home’s chapel on Tuesday, June 20^th at 1pm, followed by a reception in the Fireside Room. Cremation will take place and a private family interment will be held at Parkview Cemetery.
