Died unexpectedly at home in his 86th year on June 15, 2023. Alfred was the dear husband of Pauline (deceased 2016) for almost 54 years and is the cherished father of Craig (Lori), Paul (Karen) and Carolyn (Ric) Black. He was also the extraordinarily proud grandfather to Tyler (Christine), Courtney and Annette Blais and a doting great-grandfather to Sullivan Nickel. Alf is predeceased by his brother Ernest and survived by his sisters Rita (Virgil) Yoder and Lucy Snider (Don), brothers-in-law David Pace (Dale) and Philip (Linda) Pace and sister-in-law Phyllis Fowler (John), along with a number of cousins, nieces and nephews in his extended family.
Alf enjoyed a long career working at BF Goodrich / Michelin before becoming a valued team member at Beechwood Zehrs and Herrle’s Farm Market. Upon completion of his working days, Alf devoted countless volunteer hours to support the Mennonite Central Committee, the City of Waterloo Museum and many other causes. He was also a faithful life-long member of Waterloo-Kitchener United Mennonite Church.
Alf touched the lives of so many people with his friendly, kind nature. His interest and knowledge of people and the outside world made Alf a wonderful conversationalist and a joy to be around. Alf will be missed by his family and all who knew him.
