Dixie was the little sister who won hearts and many friends throughout out childhood and growing-up years in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and, briefly, Manitoba. Her smile was as sparklingly bright as her heart was warmed at the sight of friends and family whom she might encounter by chance or at gatherings to celebrate special holidays or the lives and accomplishments of those she loved. Always the champion of justice for the underdog, Dixie spoke up gently but firmly when anyone in her world was being bullied or demeaned in any way. Her kindness will always remain her greatest gift of legacy to all who knew her. Thank you, my beloved sister. Rest in peace until we meet again. Laura Leah

Please accept my condolences for the loss of such a wonderful loved one in your life. Dixie hired me for my first librarian job way back in 1984. She was a wonderful boss, and her example inspired me to go on to earn my own Masters of Library Science and become a manager of a children's department. Dixie was a beacon of light. She hired me as a fresh graduate, no experience, she believed in me and mentored me and my co-workers at the library- I always loved when she would get so excited when a new group of Mom’s and babies would arrive for their first library program. She didn’t have to do programs but this program was always for her. I am sorry for your loss but will keep loving, cherished memories of her and the amazing impact she had in my life.
