Obituary of Marjorie Laura Locke
With saddened hearts, the family of Marjorie wish to share the passing of a dear mother, grandmother and friend.
On Thursday June 23, 2023, Marjorie completed her journey on earth and entered into the light and presence of her loving Creator.
Reunited once again with her dear husband of 64 years, Fred Locke who predeceased her in 2009.
She was a loving and devoted mother to Steve and his wife Carol, a cherished grandmother to Allison and Sean Savard, and Erin Probert. She was always delighted to visit with her five great-grandchildren Bennett, Willem and Livienne Savard, Oden and Adelaide Probert.
Marjorie was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia on March 15, 1925 to Ismay Gomes and Herbert Wright. She was the second youngest of five sisters: Doris, Evelyn, Margaret and Marion.
After World War 11 ended, she married Fred, a young Air Force serviceman. Leaving the comfort of her childhood home, she travelled by train to Toronto to meet her new family and established one of her own.
Wherever she made her home, Marjorie made new friends easily, charming them with her witty sense of humour, grace and kindness.
Her care and compassion were also demonstrated in letters of encouragement and hope that she wrote to the youth and families serving on the war front and later also when she skillfully managed an office of youthful switchboard operators.
Marjorie came by her sweet tooth honestly, working in a candy factory at an early age. She never turned down a chocolate delivery from her family.
Marjorie continued to live a life with a positive outlook and incredible independence. Above all else, she will be remembered for her courage, grateful heart and deep appreciation of others.
The family wish to extend a thank you to her friends and caregivers at Chartwell Terrace on the Square who made her life comfortable and meaningful.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Mary’s General Hospital Foundation would be appreciated in her memory.
Visitation will be held at Erb and Good Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo on Thursday, June 29 from 11:00 am to 11:45 am followed immediately by a Celebration of Life in the funeral home chapel at 12:00 pm and reception in the Fireside Reception Room. Private interment to follow.
