Obituary of Richard Snyder

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dennis Richard (Rick) Snyder on Friday June 23, 2023 at the age of 75 after a courageous battle with cancer.  Beloved husband and soul mate of 25 years to Cathy, dear brother of Donald (Doreen Shantz) Snyder, Marilyn Snyder and June White.  Beloved son-in-law to Mary and Glen Brunkard, and Raymond and Esther Hutcheson, and brother-in law to Connie and Mike Weber.  Dear friend of Gerry and Wendy Snyder. Dear uncle to Laura (Colin) Johnson, Lindsay (Dave) Taberner and Jeff (Kelli Callaghan) Snyder and Lee Randall.

Predeceased by his parents Wayne and Lovina (Zeigler) Snyder, his nephew Scott Snyder, his sister-in-law Marilyn (Shantz) Snyder, his brothers-in-law Peter Etril Snyder and Michael White, and his furry best friend Beasley.

Rick was born in Kitchener and for over 50 years, was a Chartered Professional Accountant (CA), working in his own practices and the insurance sector.  While in private practice, Rick took great pride in providing personalized service to his clients.  For over 40 years, Rick was also involved in various capacities with Nopak Canada Inc, a local manufacturing company, most recently, in addition to being a co-owner, as the Executive Board Chair.

Rick was a passionate boater, and he and Cathy spent many summers boating on Georgian Bay.  Rick was also a ‘car-guy’, enjoying drives in the many special cars he had over the years.  He was a member of local and national Corvette clubs, attaining his ‘Master Judge’ certification from the NCRS. He was an avid reader, and model train enthusiast, and also loved singing.  In recent years he had started learning how to play the piano and electric guitar.

Rick was kind, generous, and loyal. Although he tended to be quiet and reserved, he had a presence that made all who knew him respect him greatly.  He was also loving and fun and was an adopted ‘grandpa’ (“DeDe”) to nine ‘grandchildren’.  Rick will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Cremation has taken place.  A private service is being held for the family.  A celebration of Rick’s life will take place at a later date.

Special thank you to Dr. Leanne Astawan, and the Grand River Hospital doctors and nurses who took care of Rick in recent weeks, especially Dr. Duncan Schwarz.
