Passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at the age of 79.
Marg will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her husband Larry Shantz, children Stephanie (Mike Brenneman) and Cathy (Ben Barrett) and their father Gary Colmer (Pam), step-children Brett Shantz (Claudia) and Shelley (Jim Monroe), grandchildren Cole and Brianna Barrett, Travis Johnson (Meg), Jake Monroe, and Lindsay Wallace (Rob), great-grandchildren Raleigh, Hazel, and Mackenzie, her brother Michael Sprung, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Marg was predeceased by her parents Doreene and Lyall Sprung, brothers Donald, Ralph, and Peter Sprung, and her sister Liz Christner.
Marg lived all her life in Kitchener-Waterloo. Her Christian faith was very strong and she was an active member of First United Church. She sang in the choir, played in the bell choir, volunteered in the UCW, served in the local chapter of Worldwide Marriage Encounter, and was an avid student of the Bible, sharing her faith with those around her.
In her youth Marg was a student athlete, one of the founding members of the UW women's basketball team. After graduation she was an exceptional teacher in the Waterloo Region District School Board for 30 years.
In retirement Marg and Larry travelled the world together. She stayed active by swimming, hiking, golfing, and skiing. Most of all, she enjoyed spending quality time with her family and friends both at home and in Muskoka.
Special thanks to Dr. Mithoowani and the staff at Grand River Regional Cancer Centre, the staff at Hospice Waterloo Region, and her family doctor Dr. Lubitz for the care and compassion they showed to Marg.
