Obituary of Marjory Anna Haywood (nee Klopp)

Born January 14, 1929 in Zurich, Ontario.  Passed away peacefully on July 31, 2023 at the age of 94.

Survived by Jeffrey, husband of 67 years; sisters Mary (James Whitney), Kathryn (Roy Wentzell, deceased); children Sylvia (David Leigh), Carolyn (David Warnica), Ross (Heather Shankland), John (Mechelle Cunningham); devoted grandmother to Amanda (Chris Russell), Steven and Angus Leigh; Meagan (Lucas Staring), Josie and William Warnica; Craig, Erin and James Haywood; Laura, Emily and Mark Haywood. Great-grandchildren Robynn Russell and Christian Staring were a delight in the last few years of her life.

Predeceased by her brother Herbert (Donna McClinchey) and parents Clara and Bertram Klopp.

Growing up on a farm near the shores of Lake Huron, Marjory had deep roots in Huron County.  She was also a scholar with a passionate interest in history, literature, music and languages (especially Latin), for many years teaching languages in London secondary schools. In both teaching and parenting, she encouraged effort and excellence and had little patience for popular stereotyping – some of the best pianists and chefs were boys, after all.

Marjory spent many hours volunteering for the London Symphony Orchestra and was an active and committed member of St. Ansgar Lutheran Church, London.

She was an enthusiastic supporter and champion of the endeavours of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and she will be dearly missed by all family and friends.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 8 at 11 a.m. at St. Ansgar Lutheran Church, 600 Lawson Rd., London, followed by a reception and a private interment.
