Obituary of Eileen Margaret Lemp (nee Schafer)

Born April 29, 1922, Eileen Lemp passed away from age-related illnesses at Freeport Hospital on Thursday, August 3, 2023. She was 101. 

Mother of Barbara Groves (Steve), Randy Lemp (Marie Therese), and Bradley Lemp. Proud Grandmother to Brett Groves (Vicki), Scott Groves (Deana), Aaron Lemp, and Maryse Lemp. Eileen enjoyed her visits with great-granddaughters Emily Groves (Jake Fulton) and Natalie Groves, and with her great-great-grandson Jaxon. She is also sadly missed by her sister-in-law Gertrude (Lemp) Kukor, brother-in-law Alfred Lemp, niece Diane McDermitt (Don), nephew Wayne Steffen (Crysta), and friend Muriel Soehner.

Eileen was predeceased by her husband Hilbert Lemp (2017), son Robert (1966), and sister Violet (2010).   

Eileen loved her day trips and bus trips, or “escapes” as she called them, and was a proud, lifelong member of St. John’s (Trillium) Lutheran Church.

Special thanks to the staff at Terrace on the Square Waterloo, Barnswallow Place Elmira, and the nursing staff at Grand River Hospital and Freeport Hospital, especially Nurse Anna. Thank you also to Dr. Alex Trussler for your advice and comforting words.

Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Wednesday, August 9^th from 7pm – 9pm, and Thursday, August 10^th from 10am – 10:50am. The Funeral Service will begin in the funeral home’s chapel at 11am. A reception will follow in the Fireside Reception Room. Interment at Mount Hope Waterloo Cemetery.
