Obituary of Freda Mae Dunn

Passed away peacefully at the Grand River Hospital – Freeport Campus, Kitchener on Thursday, August 3, 2023, at the age of 100 years. 

Loving wife of Ralph Dunn who predeceased her April 18, 2004.  Freda was the loving mother of Jack (predeceased September 22, 2022), Bill (Brenda) Dunn, her only daughter Linda (Ken) Whyte, Gord (Brenda) Dunn, and Tony (Paula) Dunn.  She was the proud grandmother of 12 grandchildren: Amber, Court, David, Matthew, Anthony, Nicholas, Christina, Adam, Mitchell, Alyssa, Joshua and Julia.  She was also blessed with 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.  Freda is also survived by her sister-in-law Elizabeth Rankin of Truro, Nova Scotia.

She was predeceased by her parents Murray and Annie Rankin, sister Helen (Ken) Betts, and brother Allan Rankin.

Freda moved to Waterloo in February 1946 after Ralph returned home from overseas duty with the Canadian Army during World War II.  She was employed at several factories, restaurants, and stores including the K-Mart store at Waterloo Square.  She was a member of First United Church since 1955, the Waterloo Rod & Gun Club and the Ladies Auxiliary Legion Branch 530 Waterloo, where she received her 50 year pin and 55 year bar.  Freda and Ralph were also members of SOAR Chapter 80 of the United Steel Workers.

A private family graveside service will be held at Parkview Cemetery, Waterloo, where she will be re-united with her husband Ralph of 60 years.
