Obituary of Evelyn Edelgaard Guderian

Evelyn died peacefully at Eastholme, Powassan, on Tuesday, August 8, 2023. She was 81 years old. Evelyn was predeceased by her husband Walter and son Marcel. She was the much-loved mother of Dr. Angela Guderian (David Holloway) of Callander and Douglas Guderian (Karen) of Waterloo. “Nanny” will be lovingly remembered by grandchildren Rachel Holloway (Jamere Bembridge), Daley Holloway, Bianca Guderian, Sierra Simopoulos (George), Amber Bryant (Clayton), Marina Guderian and two great-granddaughters Aria and Evangeline Simopoulos.

Evelyn loved her family. Before dementia took hold of her brain, our Mom was a wonderful cook, and gardener, and loved to talk about books, and life. Although her life got off to a difficult start in war-torn Europe, fleeing from the Russians, displaced in Germany, and later coming to Canada as a girl and as an immigrant with her mother (our "Omi"), she was able to make a good life here with our Dad / "Opi". They enjoyed travelling with family and friends, and their cottage on Georgian Bay. In later years, the travelling and adjusting to different places, even though she had known them for years, became hard for her, though she still did it for Dad. His death was a huge blow for her, as the death of Marcel had been years before. She was able to settle into Eastholme well as she was glad to have people around her and had said that "The Sandcastle is too lonely without Dad." It is comforting to know that they are now reunited.

Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Sunday, August 13, 2023 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Monday, August 14, 2023 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The funeral service will take place in the chapel of the funeral home on Monday, August 14, 2023 at 11 a.m., followed by a reception in the Fireside Reception Room.
