Obituary of Alice Henderson Hayward (Dingwall)
Daughter, sister, friend, wife, sister-in-law, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother.
Alice was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on August 1, 1924. Alice died peacefully on Monday, July 24, 2023 at Derbeckers Heritage House, St. Jacobs with family by her side.
Alice was a war bride. She married William Hayward of Owen Sound, Ontario on October 23, 1945. She sailed to Canada on June 23, 1946 on the Aquitania. She lived in Owen Sound until 1965 when the family moved to Waterloo. Predeceased by her parents, Donald and Mary Dingwall, her sister Peggy Moffat (Jim) and her brother, Donald.
Alice loved sewing, knitting, crocheting, reading, bridge, tennis, table tennis, dolls, Princess Cinemas, TCM channel 49 movies, making cards, making soup, wine with friends, keeping journals, writing letters to friends and family, travelling and being by the water.
Alice was active in her community. She volunteered as a companion to individuals on probation and with the Canadian Mental Health Association Friends program. She was a frequent visitor to the Waterloo Public Library and crafted bookmarks for the children’s department.
Much loved by children, Cary Hayward (Peggy), Mary Lavigne (Peter) and Sue Rudolph (Brad Spittles), grandchildren Steven Hayward, Emily d’Entremont (Greg), Rebecca Lavigne, Nolan Rudolph and Mallory Rudolph. Great-granddaughter, Alice d’Entremont.

Cremation has taken place.
For a time of friendship and fellowship, a Celebration of Life will be held at Erb and Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo, on Saturday, September 30, 2023 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
