Surrounded by his loving family, Dave passed away peacefully in his 80th year on September 14, 2023.

Dave, guided by his faith, lived his life with a deep commitment to stewardship of the land and the people around him. Dave grew up in the city of Waterloo, but his heart was always in the farmland of Waterloo County. This led him to pursue studies in Soil Science and a Master’s degree in Resources Development at the University of Guelph.

His passion for conservation led to a distinguished professional career, beginning with the Ontario Conservation Authorities, followed by Ontario Hydro (Ecology Section). In 1976 he joined Ecologistics Ltd, based in Waterloo, becoming principal owner in 1985 until its closing in 2000 after his first stroke.

Throughout his career, David was an active member of The Soil and Water Conservation Society, serving as President in 1989.  He was recognized by the Ontario Chapter with a Pioneer Award in 2004.

Dave was committed to the service of others. He devoted much of his time and energy to Mennonite Central Committee, starting with a two-year service assignment in Brazil in the late 1960s with his wife, Anita. His passion for the environment and social justice remained strong post-stroke.

He is survived by his loving wife Anita (Warkentin) Cressman and his dear family Jeff Cressman and Cindy Choua of Aldinga, South Australia; James Cressman and Rachel Schmidt, Nadine and Ellie of Toronto and Jon and Fiona Jewitt Cressman, Zayden, Xavier and Suri of Coolum Beach, Queensland. Fondly remembered by in-laws Art and Bonnie Warkentin, Esther and Vic Ens and 5 nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his parents Fred and Erma (Dedels) Cressman and sister Diane Cressman.

Dave’s family would like to express gratitude to the Parkwood Mennonite Home staff for their compassionate care and support.

A memorial service will be held at Waterloo North Mennonite Church on Monday, September 25th at 6:30pm with refreshments to follow. A live stream link to the service is available by clicking here

Memorial donations to Mennonite Central Committee, with a ‘Food’ designation, or The Soil and Water Conservation Society would be appreciated by the family and can be arranged through www.erbgood.com.
