Obituary of Jean Marion Wagner
2 Corinthians 5:7
"For we walk by faith, not by sight."
Jean Marion Wagner (née Hoffer), 93, passed on to eternal peace on September 14, 2023.
Born and raised in Elmira, Ontario in 1930, Jean was the youngest of six children to Aaron and Edith Urana (Rene) (Esh) Hoffer. She graduated from the K-W Hospital School of Nursing and the University of Toronto before a career spent caring for others, as a Registered Nurse at New Mount Sinai Hospital, Victorian Order of Nurses throughout the province, and special education teacher while continuing to use her nursing skills at Beamsville District HS and Eastwood C.I.
Jean married her beloved the Reverend Carl Wagner in 1956 (husband of 66 years). Carl’s work took them around Ontario until they settled in Kitchener in 1970. Retirement and a life-long appreciation for nature, history and different cultures brought Jean and Carl around the world over the last 30 years. Jeannie’s happy place was at the cottage in Point Clark, where many weekends were spent with her family on the lakeshore, playing cards and picking raspberries. Her love of painting focused on landscapes and flowers.
A woman of deep faith, kindness, and loyalty, Jean committed her life to serving others; as a Pastor's wife, mother, and nurse. She was heavily involved in her church; with Ladies of Grace, regional choirs and holding various provincial and national executive positions in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. At age 80, she volunteered to participate in a missionary trip to Nicaragua.
Jeannie was greatly loved and will be missed by her children Patricia (Greg) McLellan, Nancy (Larry) Wisotzki, Leslie (Jim) Fierling; sister in-law Helen Wagner; grandchildren Daniel, Amy (Matthew), Alexandra, Aaron (Arianna), Christine (Jason), Matthew (Jess) and Katherine; great-grandchildren Hunter, Collins, Payton, Rory, Emmett and Liam. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Carl, parents and siblings Lloy (Stewart), Ruth (Ken), John (Jean), Trudy (Frank) and Viv (Stewart). Aunt Jeannie will also be missed by her beloved Hoffer family nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to Westmount Retirement Home and Niamh, Ester, Rosland, and Maria for Mom’s care over these past 4 years as well St. Mary’s 7th floor staff and Dr. Elboreky and Dr. Moolman for their support and care of Mom.
