It is with heavy hearts that our family announces the passing of our beloved father, Douglas Steep Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at St Mary’s Hospital.  Doug is reunited with the love of his life, Bernice (2015). Loving father of Scott (Lynda), Shelley, and Susan (Rod). Loving Grandpa to Brittany, Kyle, Mitchell, Jaynie, Abbey, Liam and Great-Grandpa to Claire and Ben.  Doug is survived by his sisters Norma Bradley and Arlene McFadden.

Doug and Bernice were high school sweethearts whose lifetime together brought them much love and happiness. Despite his young age and inexperience, he was awarded a Canadian Tire store in Mount Forest in 1962 at the age of 23, and currently holds the title of becoming the youngest Canadian Tire dealer. Canadian Tire took Doug and Bernice to Fort Frances and Galt before finally settling in Waterloo in 1969. They spent the next 23 years building a successful business and raising their family together.

Doug found his joy spending time with his family, especially Bernice in Florida and at their cottage in Port Elgin. Here they enjoyed golfing, playing cards and entertaining friends and family. Doug was an exceptional card player much to Bernice’s dismay. In earlier days, Doug and Bernice loved curling which they enjoyed with many friends. He found great joy in being a grandpa and cherished spending time with his grandchildren. Doug will be remembered as a man of few words with a very dry sense of humour and a big heart hidden underneath a gruff exterior.

He will live on in all those who knew and loved him.

Rest in peace Dad, we will miss you.

Special thanks to Dr. Vitou, Dr. Fowlis, Sue Melo, NP, Dr. Yip and the 3rd floor cardiac nursing staff at St. Mary’s whose kindness will not be forgotten.

Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Tuesday, September 26 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.  The funeral service will take place in the chapel of the funeral home on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at 11 a.m.  For those who are unable to attend in person, a livestream link and recording of the service will be available on Doug’s tribute page at www.erbgood.com.  Private interment at Parkview Cemetery, Waterloo.
