Obituary of Richard John Setka

Passed away peacefully on September 19, 2023 at Trinity Village Care Centre in Kitchener at the age of 81.

Soulmate of Heather (nee Walker) for 39 wonderful years and beloved father to David (Eva), Colleen Cox (Jamie), Arthur (Roann) and Martin.  Proud Grandfather to Max, Jayah, Taryn and Dexton.

Predeceased by his parents, John and Doris (nee Petraschuk), and survived by his sister and brothers Marjorie McKenzie (Gary) of Kelowna, BC, Garry (Katherine) of Okotoks, AB, Eugene (Jane) of Priddis, AB and many nieces and nephews.

Richard was born and raised in the small northern town of Smeaton, Saskatchewan where his family ran the General Store.  His adventure began when he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, spending time in Edmonton, AB, and Montreal, QC, eventually starting his family in Kitchener, ON where he worked for IBM, retiring in 1992.

His first passion was travelling the world. During his down time, Richard loved gardening, cycling, and of course, looking for the next adventure. Richard found the beauty in every day and made life-long friends everywhere he went. 

A Celebration of Richard’s life will take place in the Fireside Reception Room at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S. Waterloo, ON, on Thursday, September 28, 2023 from 3:30 – 7:00 p.m.
