It is with heavy hearts that our family announces the passing of Edward Werner on September 22, 2023, at Grand River Hospital Freeport Campus. He was 83.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; his sons, Stephen and Jeffery; his sister, Trudy; his eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his brother, Gus, and his daughter, Anita.
Ed was born in Germany and moved to Canada with his family at age 14. He settled in the Tillsonburg area and spent his young adult years working on farms before apprenticing in construction. Ed and Nancy met in 1960 at a soccer game, and they were married in 1964. They moved to Kitchener in 1965 and had three children: Anita (1966), Stephen (1967), and Jeffery (1972).
Ed worked as a plasterer and home contractor. He was well-known throughout the region for his high standards and unique innovations in his trade. He was very proud of his German roots, always cheering for Germany during the World Cup and listening to German music on Sunday mornings. Summer weekends were spent at the trailer in Honey Harbour, Long Point, and Port Burwell. Ed and Nancy also enjoyed winter trips to Florida, summer fishing trips to Britt and Missinaibi, and fall hunting trips in northern Ontario.
Ed will be remembered as a loving husband and father, always sharing his sense of adventure, expertise and experience.
