Obituary of Stewart "Stew" William Whitmore

The curtain has come down on a curious and clever mind. Stew passed away peacefully at Freeport Hospital (Palliative Care Unit), Kitchener, on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at the age of 71. He is survived by his cherished wife and best friend, Susan; his sisters, Irene and Elaine; brother-in-law Dave, niece Kelly; nephew Geof; and cousins Ellen, Ron and Rob.

Stew had another great love too … his four dogs, all of them rescued. Samantha and Jackie were followed by Chelsea and Sammy, they all adored him.

Stew spent the first years of his working life with Canada Post. He held numerous positions from mail sorter to postmaster and enjoyed it all. Next up was a career in nursing, first at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto and then settling in at Grand River Hospital in Kitchener. Although the past 3 years have been difficult, Stew was able to enjoy his retirement for 8 years, much of it at the cottage on Georgian Bay.

Special thanks to all those who eased Stew’s journey, and as he said, “they did their best to buy me time,” from his wonderful GP to all the staff at St. Mary’s Hospital and Grand River Hospital whose knowledge and compassion never flagged.

He will be forever missed.

At Stew’s request there will be no visitation or service. Cremation has taken place.
