Obituary of John Henry Elliot

December 28, 1941 – October 7, 2023 

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of John Henry Elliot on Saturday October 7, 2023, at the age of 81. Beloved husband of Kathryn (Smith) for 52 years. Much loved father of his two daughters, Robin Gienow and Karen Chappell, and sons-in-law, Dale Gienow and Jeremy Chappell. Proud Grandpa and Papa to Elliot, Mason, Charleigh, and Reed. Predeceased by his parents, John and Hazel Elliot. He will be missed by all his friends, former colleagues, and extended family.

John was a dedicated member of the Local 46 Plumbers and Steamfitters Union for over 50 years. He had a strong work ethic and always strived for excellence. He was a man you could count on, always willing to lend a helping hand. The love he had for his family and friends was unmistakable, always putting them first. He loved many things in life. He was a huge fan of the Toronto Blue Jays. He enjoyed collecting miniature cars and coins, cooking extravagant meals, and most recently, he took up woodworking. He enjoyed building birdhouses, flower boxes and tinkering on small woodworking projects. He will be remembered for his generosity, his entertaining stories, his great sense of humour and for always making those around him smile. 

A heartfelt thanks to all the staff at Grand River Hospital and the ParaMed team who cared for him with compassion. Your kindness will not be forgotten by his family.  

To honour John’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held on Sunday, October 15, 2023.
