Obituary of Frederick Shantz
Frederick A. Shantz (1947-2023), resident of Wallaceburg, ON for the past 3 years, unexpectedly passed away at his home on Thursday, September 28, 2023.
Fred was born and raised in the St. Jacobs/Elmira/K-W area as the youngest son to the late Lorne & Almeda (Good) Shantz & step-son of the late Mary (Horst Gingrich) Shantz.
Fred has been beloved husband to Debbie (Hillis) Shantz for over 37 years (26 married).
Fred will be remembered by his Son, Cooper C. Shantz (Erin), and granddaughter Olivia - Victoria, B.C.;
Lovingly, and sadly missed by his Step-Children, Clinton Hunter - Sarnia, ON; Cassandra (Peter) Brubacher and granddaughters Maeve & Maiya - Cambridge, ON. (as Papa Fred)
Fred was much loved brother to siblings: Esther Shantz, Ken (Myrna) Shantz, Eileen (Clare) Bauman, the late Roland (Fern) Shantz, Yvonne (Clare) Pomeroy.
Predeceased by infant brothers Stewart & Richard, Sister-in-law Dianne (Roth) Shantz and Niece Janet (Charles) Mazereeuw.
Many nieces and nephews will fondly remember him as Uncle Freddy.
In his youth Fred excelled in Hockey reaching his goal of training with the Kitchener Rangers Hockey League. His love for B.C.'s Rocky Mountains began in Alaska on a volunteer trip at the age of 16.
Fred achieved many certificates of accomplishment as a Heavy Equipment Operator. While in B.C. he enjoyed many years with Fording Coal in the Elk Valley.
Upon returning to Ontario, Fred was always enjoying new ventures and learning new skills.
Fred left his signature of talented landscaping & gardening at each property where he resided as well as several S.W. Ontario Golf Courses.
His various hobbies included many years with the Highwaymen Car Club of Kitchener, NASCAR, golf and many projects involving autos, boats, motorcycles and more.
Live Well, Laugh Often, Love Much depicts his outlook on life. He is now resting in God's eternal love & peace.
Cremation has taken place, An informal gathering at Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, Fireside Room, 171 King St. S, Waterloo to honour and celebrate the life of Fred Shantz will be held from 9:30am – 11:30am on Saturday, October 14, 2023. Refreshments will be available. The family would also like to extend an open invitation to attend The Highwaymen Car Club, 606 Lancaster Street, Kitchener, Ontario after the celebration for a casual “meet & greet” social.
As an expression of sympathy, donations can be accepted at the Funeral Home for: Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada or Cancer Research Foundation of Canada.
