Sincere condolences to the Lee Family. Bill was a community builder, a real gentleman and a wonderful supporter of our Tien Hoa Fastball team. Our team was proud to wear the TH and represent an outstanding restaurant which we often visited. Our end of year banquets were always memorable. Kelvin joined our team on a number of occasions to contribute..
On behalf of many players who still meet and talk about our TH days, we are grateful for the support from Bill and family.
Our thoughts and best to you as you receive tributes to this remarkable man.

The COCCC and its members wish to express our deepest condolences to the Lee Family. We are saddened by the loss of Bill Lee, and our thoughts and prayers are with you during this challenging time.
Bill Lee, along with Peter Chieh and Normal Lynn, were integral in the sharing and preservation of Chinese culture in the KW Region. Not only did they achieve that goal through the founding of the Central Ontario Chinese Cultural Centre in 1973 and the KW Chinese School, but also brought together a community that still stands to this day. Their hard work has inspired many others to share their culture, as well as help newcomers feel welcomed and integrate into Canadian culture.
We thank Bill for his hard work, and will continue his legacy in sharing and preserving Chinese Culture. He will be missed, and will always be respected and loved in our hearts.

To Leah and all members of the family, we share your sadness and loss. We also share the celebration of his life. Bill was a leader in business and in the community. He had done a lot of good to the Chinese Canadians here. He earned our love and respect. He lived a long and happy life. His legacy of hardworking, integrity, and leadership will be remembered.
Bill Lee was a creative and successful businessman, a community leader, a family man, and a warm-hearted buddy to his friends. He left a memorable legacy in Waterloo Region and beyond, as pointed out by an article written by Beth Gallagher, for the book "Profiles from the Past, Faces of the Future" published and written by Waterloo Public Library in 2007. Bill Lee was one of 150 people honoured in the book. “When Tien Hoa Inn opened it served everything from egg salad sandwiches to chicken fried rice. A dinner for two went for $3.60 and dinner for six was $10.50,” mentioned in the article, which also said that Bill Lee led eleven men started the Tien Hoa Inn in 1962. Bill and his partners worked 21-hour days when they opened the business, wrote Henry Koch, a columnist, in 1982.
I came to the University of Waterloo as a postdoctoral fellow and my family moved here in 1969. When we walked into Tien Hoa Inn at the junction of Bridgeport Rd. and Webber, the staff were courteous and friendly. Bill came to our table to greet us as if we had been his long-time customers. He entertained us by telling us bits of Waterloo every time we were there. He told us the names and owners of Chinese restaurants in Kitchener and Waterloo. Bill became our family friend. I forgot how, but we also became friends with Norman Lynn of Tops restaurant on College Street in Kitchener and other Chinese businessmen and doctors.
There were professors and students of Chinese descent from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, etc. We all felt the warmth and vitality of the Chinese in this community. Bill and Norman and other business Chinese Canadians have done lots of charity and social works in the twin city. They strongly supported the idea of establishing an organization to help Chinese integrate into Canadian life and play an active role in the community. I became an assistant professor a year later. Bill, Norman and I joined an ad hoc committee consisting of scholars, students and community members. By 1973, we began a Chinese school in Morman Lynn’s Multicultural Centre on Charls Street at that time. The school is now called KW Chinese School held in Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary School. The organization was called The Chinese Cultural Centre, which became a charitable organization a few years later, renamed Central Ontario Chinese Cultural Centre (COCCC).
In the Asian Heritage month, May, of 2022, CBC wrote an article of old stories of Asians in this community. The current president of COCCC, Ryan Wong, mentioned that Bill Lee, Norman Lynn and Peter Chieh were founders of COCCC in the article.
Bill’s wife, Leah Lee, always strongly supports Bill. After the turn of the millennium, we seldom saw them at COCCC activities. Their friends missed them very much and all were eager to learn about their well-being. We are sad to learn Bill’s passing away. He will always be respected and loved in our hearts.
