Obituary of James Macpherson
Macpherson, James “Jim”
August 31, 1926 - October 11, 2023
Passed away peacefully at Grand River Hospital on Wednesday October 11, 2023, at age 97.
Jim will be missed by his sister-in-law Alice and his many nieces and nephew.
Jim was predeceased by his wife of 53 years Adrienne (nee Jones), parents William and Gertrude (nee Roy) Macpherson, his brother Roy and his nephew Bill as well as his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
Jim was born in Glasgow, Scotland. He joined the Royal Air Force and came to Canada for some training, where he initially met Adrienne. Due to a sinus issue, he was not able to be a pilot, but became a navigator. World War II ended before he was sent overseas. He returned to Canada to marry Adrienne in 1955 and obtained his Canadian citizenship July 30, 1959. They lived in Churchill, Manitoba and eventually moved to Winnipeg where Adrienne’s family lived. In Winnipeg, they made many lifelong friends. While in Winnipeg, Jim, with help of friends, built a cottage. Jim worked in insurance and they ended up in Toronto but, tired of the insurance business, he started working for himself. He loved building and woodworking. He enjoyed having budgies and cats over the years. Almost every year, he and Adrienne would make the trip to Winnipeg to visit his cottage; it was very rustic and he would lovingly take care of it. For those who traveled with him, it was always a packed car. They moved to Kitchener around 2000. After Adrienne passed away, he moved in with his niece and he still continued to go to his cottage, but alas the trip was too much and he had to sell. He belonged to the Kitchener-Waterloo Philatelic Society for many years.
Thanks to the staff at Grand River Hospital 8A for their care and support. A special thank you to the wonderful staff and residents at the Senior’s Residence at Briarfield Gardens Kitchener, they were amazing and made his transition to a new place easy.
The funeral service will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Saturday October 21, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. followed by a reception. Cremation will have taken place, and a private family interment will be held at St John the Evangelist Anglican Church at a later date.
