Obituary of Joyce Elizabeth Ord

March 21, 1936 - October 26, 2023

It is with sadness that the family of Joyce Ord (nee Salmon) announces her passing at 87 years of age.

Predeceased by her dear husband Jack of 64 years; and mother to Sharon, Jennifer (Ray Prentice), and David (Tania Dacre). Grandmother to Alex Delisle (Eileen Christie), Kimberly Laplaunte (Ryan), Justin Prentice, Ryan Prentice, and Victoria Shamu (Brandon). Great-grandmother to Hazel Laplaunte. She is survived by her brother David Salmon (Marg Dollar) of Skeleton Lake.

She graduated as a registered nurse from Toronto General Hospital in 1957 and worked as a lead operating room nurse in Illinois where they lived while Jack attended graduate school. Later, she returned to her vocation as a registered nurse working for Public Health at the Region of Waterloo.

Since 1967, from early May to Thanksgiving, weekends and summers were spent at the cottage on Skeleton Lake in Muskoka where she especially enjoyed swimming.

Knitting and reading were highly valued pastimes. Reading cookbooks and watching cooking shows contributed to her infinite enjoyment and creativity in the kitchen. She also enjoyed playing duplicate bridge, and with Jack as her partner, made formidable opponents.

The family would especially like to thank the staff and volunteers at Innisfree House for their compassionate end-of-life care.

At the request of the deceased there will be no funeral. Cremation has already taken place.
