Obituary of Choné Wright Williams
Choné Wright Williams (nee Oliver) passed away peacefully at the Sunnyside Home Tuesday, October 31, 2023, in her 86th year. Pre-deceased by her husband Kenneth Williams. Sadly missed by her children: son Alan Williams (Lan), and daughters Carol Hulls (Michael) and Cindy Smith (Dale). Treasured by 6 grandchildren: Maggie and Carey Hulls, Emily, Julia, and Dylan Smith, and Kendra Williams. Dearly missed by her identical twin sister Glenna Jamieson (Jim) of Langley BC, and many nieces and nephews.
Choné was born in Geraldton, Ontario, on May 15, 1938, in a mining hospital, and grew up on a farm in the Slate River Valley near Thunder Bay. She graduated from Queen’s University in 1960 with a Bachelor of Arts, and from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Library Science in 1961. Choné lived in Kingston, ON, Malton, ON, Fenwick, ON, and Kitchener, ON.
Although Choné’s career as a librarian was brief, her love of books lasted a lifetime. She would read widely from history, politics, social issues, economics, current events in Canada and around the world, and enjoyed fiction and short stories from Canadian authors.
Choné was a devoted mother and wife, and she passed her love of learning on to her children and grandchildren. She was a role model for a parent: responsible, caring, fair, and encouraging.
Choné volunteered her services to help communities in which she lived. She helped with the United Church Women, Girl Guides, helping people learning to read, served as a poll clerk for elections, assisted in public school libraries, and even in her 80s, she helped newcomers to Canada to learn English.
The family wishes to extend their appreciation to the dedicated and caring staff at St. Mary’s Hospital, and the Sunnyside home who provided care for Choné during her final days.
Relatives and friends are welcome to attend the funeral service at Emmanuel United Church, 22 Bridgeport Road W., Waterloo, on Friday, November 10, 2023, at 2:00 p.m.
