Obituary of Gertrud Stobbe
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Gertrud Stobbe on November 13, 2023, at the age of 95 years, 7 months and 28 days; of age-related health complications at Trinity Village in Kitchener, where she had lived since October 2021.
She was predeceased by her mother in 1941; her father in 1976; an older sister in 2014; her first husband, Herbert Wall, and her second husband, Vladimir Lukes.
She is survived by her brother; her three children, Ursula Kucharski of Niagara Falls, ON, Wilfried Wall of Toronto, ON, and Christa Wall (Chris Oliver) of Vancouver, BC; as well as three grandchildren, Genevieve Wall, Taff Oliver, and Kian Oliver.
Gertrud was born in Poland just north of Warsaw in 1928. When she was 16, the family fled west like so many other ethnic nationals, due to wartime hostilities. The family spent some time in a west German refugee camp, and were able to immigrate to Canada in 1949. Gertrud first came to Saskatchewan, and then moved to Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON. Several years later she moved to Kitchener and became part of the Martin Luther Church in Kitchener.
In keeping with Gertrud’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral service. Condolences for the family and memorial donations to the Mennonite Central Committee may be arranged through the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home at www.erbgood.com.
